Travelling to Dubai on a Three UK plan? Your roaming experience depends heavily on which Three plan you're on and when you signed up. Dubai falls into Three's Go Roam Around the World Extra zone, which means it's available on Complete plans and via daily passes or multi-day Go Roam passes. But the pricing, data caps, and tethering restrictions can catch travellers off guard. Before you head to the UAE, it's worth understanding exactly what Three offers, what it costs, and when a prepaid travel eSIM delivers better value for your Dubai trip.
Dubai is part of Three's Go Roam Around the World Extra destinations. This is the broadest of Three's three roaming tiers (Go Roam in Europe, Go Roam Around the World, and Go Roam Around the World Extra), covering 92 destinations including the UAE.
The roaming experience on Three in Dubai depends on your plan type and when you signed up. Complete plans (joined after 22 June 2025) include Go Roam Around the World Extra at no extra daily cost. Value plans only cover European destinations, so Dubai requires a Go Roam pass or daily charge. Lite and Advanced plans have no built-in roaming at all.

Three connects to local UAE networks including Etisalat (e&) and du in Dubai. Coverage is strong across the city and surrounding areas. Roaming speeds are capped at 4G. Three also enforces a 12 GB monthly fair use cap on data roaming outside Europe, even if your UK plan includes more data.
The Go Roam passes are the most popular option for non-Complete customers. The 3-day pass at £17.50 works out to roughly £5.83/day, which is competitive. The 7-day pass at £35 (£5/day) is the sweet spot for a typical Dubai holiday. You can buy passes in advance through My3 or the Three app, and they activate on first use in Dubai.
The Data Passport is worth considering if you need heavy data usage for a specific day (video calls, large uploads, streaming). At £7/day for unlimited data, it's more expensive than the daily roaming charge but removes the 12 GB monthly cap for that session. Note that Data Passports cover data only; calls and texts are charged separately at standard roaming rates.
Tethering is not allowed in Go Roam Around the World Extra destinations, including Dubai. If you need to share your connection with a laptop or tablet, you'll need a Data Passport, which does permit tethering.
Check your plan type in My3. The Three app and My3 portal show your exact plan, when you signed up, and how many roaming days or passes you have available. This is essential before travelling.
Buy Go Roam passes before departure. Passes sit on your account and activate on first use. Buying in advance means you're covered the moment you land at Dubai International. You can stack multiple passes for longer trips.
Set a Spend Cap. Three applies a default worldwide data roaming limit of £45 (excluding VAT). If you're paying daily charges of £7, this cap can cut your roaming after roughly 6 days. Adjust it through My3 before your trip.
Watch the 12 GB monthly data limit. Three enforces a 12 GB fair use policy for data roaming outside Europe. For a week in Dubai, 12 GB is usually sufficient for messaging, navigation, and social media. But if you're streaming video, working remotely, or uploading large files, you could hit this limit before your trip ends.
Prepare for VoIP restrictions. WhatsApp voice and video calls, FaceTime, and Skype calling may be blocked in the UAE. Standard text messaging works. Use regular phone calls or the Botim app for voice communication.
Enable data roaming. On your phone, go to Settings, Mobile Data, Data Roaming and toggle it on. Three sends you a text on arrival confirming charges for your destination.
Three's Go Roam passes are competitive for short trips. The 7-day pass at £35 works out to just £5/day, which undercuts Vodafone and is on par with EE's Zone 1 rate for Dubai. But the limitations add up: a 12 GB monthly data cap, no tethering, and 4G-only speeds.
For trips longer than a week, costs escalate. A 14-day Go Roam pass costs £84 (£6/day), and extending beyond that means buying additional daily passes at £7/day. A travel eSIM with a fixed prepaid price for 10, 14, or 20 days offers more predictable costs.
The 12 GB data cap is the biggest limitation for data-heavy users. If you're working remotely from Dubai, attending video calls, or streaming content, 12 GB for an entire month of roaming may not be enough. A travel eSIM on a local Etisalat network provides consistent speeds without monthly fair use limits.
For Lite and Advanced plan customers without built-in roaming, a travel eSIM avoids the need to buy Go Roam passes entirely. It's a simpler, often cheaper solution.
