Three UK's roaming structure went through a significant change on 22 June 2025, and Turkey landed in a position that catches many customers off guard. While Three customers on Go Binge or older Advanced plans once enjoyed free roaming in Turkey through their annual day allocation, the updated rules place Turkey in a zone that requires a daily charge on most current plan types. If you are planning a trip to Istanbul, the Turkish Riviera, or Cappadocia on a Three UK SIM, the details of your specific contract now matter considerably more than they did before.
As of June 22, 2025, Three UK restructured its roaming into two main categories. Value plans cover EU roaming at £2/day across 49 destinations, but Turkey is not in the EU zone on Three. Complete plans include roaming in 160+ worldwide destinations as part of the monthly allowance, which does cover Turkey for customers on qualifying Complete packages. Pay As You Go customers access Go Roam in 22 destinations, which does not include Turkey.
For most Three UK customers on standard current plans, Turkey falls under the Go Roam Around the World Extra zone, which carries a charge of £7 per day when roaming. This daily charge covers calls, texts, and data from your existing UK allowance, subject to a fair use cap of 12GB per month while roaming. Calls to local Turkish numbers cost extra and are not covered by the daily Go Roam fee, which only applies to calls made to or received from UK numbers.
Customers who signed contracts before June 22, 2025 may still have access to their original roaming terms including free roaming days per year (between 14 and 56 depending on contract length). These legacy terms remain valid until contract renewal. If you renewed after June 22, 2025, the new structure applies.

The 12GB fair use cap applies to data used while roaming internationally on Three UK. If you exceed 12GB in a calendar month while abroad, Three may restrict data speeds or ask you to return to the UK before full speed resumes.
Check whether you are on a pre or post-June 2025 contract before booking. Log into the Three UK app and navigate to Roaming. Your plan will clearly show which roaming zone Turkey falls under and whether any legacy roaming day allocation remains. This single check determines your entire cost structure for the trip.
On Value plans, the £7/day charge is per calendar day, not per 24 hours. A connection at 11:30 PM Turkish time triggers a full day's charge. Local Turkish calls cost extra regardless of your plan. The Go Roam daily fee covers calls to and from UK numbers only. The 12GB monthly roaming cap is shared across all countries visited. If you roam in Spain for a week earlier in the month and use 8GB, you arrive in Turkey with only 4GB remaining under the fair use cap. At £7 per day, a two-week Turkey holiday costs £98 in Three roaming charges before you account for local calls. A 10-day trip costs £70. These are not trivial sums, particularly for a Value plan customer who expected EU-style roaming pricing and did not read the fine print around Turkey's zone classification.
The maths shift significantly in favour of a dedicated Turkey eSIM for any trip over five days on a Value plan.
