Heya Roaming: What Singapore Users Need to Know in 2026

Table of Contents

If you have been searching for information about Heya roaming, there is something important to know first: as of 1 December 2025, Singtel officially migrated all Heya customers to its rebranded Singtel hi! plan. New sign-ups for Heya stopped in November 2025, and the brand is no longer accepting new customers. If you are an existing Heya customer, your plan moved to Singtel hi! automatically via SMS notification. If you are researching Heya because you are thinking of signing up, that option is no longer available. This guide covers what Heya roaming offered, what the migration to Singtel hi! means for existing users, and what your options look like for travel eSIMs if you need connectivity beyond the 15 destinations that Heya's DataRoam service covered.

Looking for an eSIM?

TurkSIM offers digital SIM cards for your next destination - with prepaid eSIM plans, ready to activate instantly.

What Was Heya and How Did Its Roaming Work

Heya was a digital-first, no-contract SIM-only service operated by Singtel, positioned as a budget-friendly alternative to the main Singtel brand. It ran on the same Singtel infrastructure - Singapore's highest-rated mobile network in Opensignal's December 2025 report - but kept the plan structure simple: two base plan options and a DataRoam add-on for international travel.

Roaming with Heya worked through the DataRoam add-on, which provided 1GB of data valid for 7 days across 15 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The add-on could be stacked up to 10GB total, with unused data expiring at the end of the 7-day period. Roaming calls and outgoing SMS were not supported. Only data and incoming SMS were available while abroad.

Heya never offered eSIM support. All plans required a physical SIM card, and there was no indication at any point that eSIM would be introduced before the migration to Singtel hi! concluded.

Heya Roaming: Plan Summary (Historical Reference)

The following table reflects Heya's roaming structure as it existed before the December 2025 migration. This is provided for reference for existing customers reviewing their previous plan terms.

Plan TierRoaming IncludedDataRoam Add-onDestinations
$13 Heya Plan10GB (MY, ID, TH priority, then 12 others)Available15 APAC destinations
DataRoam Add-on1GB per add-on, stackable to 10GB max7-day validity15 APAC destinations

Key limitations: no rollover of unused roaming data between monthly plans, no outgoing calls or SMS while roaming, no eSIM, and coverage capped at 15 destinations with no global option.

What the Migration to Singtel hi! Means for Roaming

Existing Heya customers who were migrated to Singtel hi! have access to a materially improved roaming structure. The Singtel hi! plan starting at SGD $12/month includes 250GB of local 4G data, 250GB roaming data for Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, plus access to international roaming across additional destinations. Singtel hi! also introduces eSIM compatibility, which Heya never offered.

For former Heya users, this migration expands the destinations available under standard plan inclusions beyond the previous 15, and removes some of the restrictions that applied to the DataRoam add-on. Check the current Singtel hi! terms in the hi! app for up-to-date roaming zone details, as these may continue to be updated.

Practical Tips for Former Heya Customers Now on Singtel hi!

Download the Singtel hi! app. Management of your plan, roaming purchases, and usage tracking have moved from the Heya interface to the Singtel hi! app. The old Heya app will not reflect your current plan accurately.

Check your new roaming destinations. Singtel hi! covers more destinations than Heya's 15-country DataRoam list. Review the current partner list in the hi! app before your next trip, as it may include countries that were not available to you under Heya.

Enable data roaming in your phone settings before departure. This requirement has not changed. Go to Settings, Mobile Data, Data Roaming and toggle it on.

eSIM is now available. Unlike Heya, Singtel hi! supports eSIM. If your device is compatible, you can consider migrating from your physical SIM to an eSIM profile under your hi! account.

Outgoing calls are now supported while roaming. Heya restricted roaming to data and incoming SMS only. Singtel hi! includes voice roaming, which is a meaningful upgrade for travellers.

For destinations outside Singtel hi!'s coverage or for longer trips, a travel eSIM is still worth considering. The hi! plan covers its listed partner countries, but for extended stays in destinations like Turkey, Japan or Europe, a destination-specific eSIM gives you a dedicated data pool for your actual trip.

When a Travel eSIM Makes More Sense

The Singtel hi! migration gives former Heya users significantly better roaming terms. But even with the expanded destination list, the core challenge remains: your Singapore plan's roaming data is a shared monthly pool, not a trip-sized allocation. If you are heading somewhere outside the hi! partner list, or staying longer than your monthly pool can comfortably cover, a travel eSIM is still the cleaner option.

For trips to Turkey, the Maldives, or destinations across Southern Europe, a TurkSIM eSIM connects to local networks at local data rates. Your Singtel hi! SIM stays in slot one of your phone for calls, incoming messages and banking OTPs. The eSIM handles data in slot two. Setup takes a couple of minutes via QR code before departure, and there is no monthly cycle to worry about. You pay for the data you actually need for the duration of your actual trip.

Why Former Heya Users Choose a TurkSIM eSIM for Travel Beyond APAC

Heya's 15-destination DataRoam coverage was tightly focused on Southeast and East Asia. The migration to Singtel hi! expands that, but Singaporeans travelling to Central Asia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean or Turkey still find that a local eSIM is the more practical solution for anything beyond a short stopover.

The Singtel hi! roaming pool is sized around a monthly plan, not around a ten-day trip. A Singaporean flying to Istanbul for a week needs dedicated data for navigation through the city's tram and metro system, offline maps of the Grand Bazaar area, and reliable connectivity for accommodation apps throughout the stay. A TurkSIM eSIM connects directly to Turkcell or Vodafone Turkey's local network, giving you plan coverage matched to your trip duration rather than a sliver of a monthly allowance shared across your regular Singapore usage cycle. The dual-SIM setup keeps your Singtel hi! number live for banking OTPs and Singapore calls, while TurkSIM handles everything on the ground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still sign up for Heya in 2026?

No. Heya stopped accepting new customer sign-ups in November 2025. As of 1 December 2025, all existing Heya customers were migrated to Singtel hi!. The Heya brand is no longer active for new registrations. If you are looking for a Singtel-network plan, Singtel hi! is the current equivalent.

What happened to my Heya plan?

Existing Heya customers had their plans automatically migrated to Singtel hi! from 1 December 2025. Singtel notified affected customers via SMS before the transition. Your existing plan terms carried over into the migration, with Singtel hi! providing additional features including eSIM support and expanded roaming coverage.

Did Heya support roaming calls?

No. Heya's DataRoam add-on supported data and incoming SMS only. Outgoing calls and outgoing SMS while roaming were not available. This restriction was one of the most commonly cited limitations of the service. Singtel hi! supports voice roaming, which is an improvement for former Heya customers.

What countries did Heya DataRoam cover?

Heya DataRoam covered 15 destinations: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. No global or European destinations were supported. For anything outside this list, a separate travel SIM or eSIM was required.

Did Heya offer eSIM?

No. Heya offered physical SIM cards only throughout its operation. eSIM support was never introduced before the brand was migrated to Singtel hi!. Singtel hi! now supports eSIM for compatible devices.

How does a travel eSIM compare to Singtel hi! roaming for a trip to Turkey?

Singtel hi! provides roaming data across its partner network in Turkey if the destination is included in the current coverage list. For a trip of several days or more, a TurkSIM eSIM offers a dedicated data plan sized to your actual stay rather than drawing from a monthly Singapore plan pool. The dual-SIM approach lets you keep your Singtel hi! number active throughout the trip for calls and OTP messages.
